Tightrope Theatre
Tightrope Impro theatre is made up of a wildly creative group of humans who bring colour, fun and play into the city of Vancouver through the art of improv.
I helped them design an identity for their brand that embodies what they are all about - boldly taking risks, playing and learning along the way.
From the very beginning the team had this whimsical vision for the brand - telling a story was important to them. They imagined this person gleefully falling off a tightrope into the unknown - failing, but having SO much fun. This simple idea in Ali’s brain, turned into a (sketchy) sketch on my iPad and then eventually formed into this crazy, wonderful scene we finished with. Each little piece was incorporated for a reason - either to depict a common fear or emotion we all face during improv or watching it (fear of making a fool of ourselves, too many eyes on us!! Tears or joy, laughter, sadness, the nervous butterflies..) OR to represent the founders themselves, little pieces that speak to their journey to get to this point together (the moose!). And Allllll of this is wrapped up in a jungle of tropical leaves and mushrooms… I mean, what is more whimsical that that?
The brand illustration is really what tells the story here - the logo is just one small part of it.
What a fun project to be apart of. I can’t wait to see this little theatre flourish and become a space for everyone to learn, grow and LAUGH so hard they pee their pants
